Let's discuss babies.
Hello, all!
“What’s up with babies?” It’s the question on the tip of everyone’s tongue.
Unfortunately, I don’t have a single, satisfying answer to offer. Babies truly defy any sort of easy explanation. I’ll leave it at that for now.
As February steals by, I’m keeping busy with a number of projects and undertakings: learning the Afro-Brazilian martial art form of capoeira (sometimes referred to as “Brazilian dance-fighting” by the uninitiated), refinancing my Winnebago Sunstar, searching for garments that “spark joy,” and (of course!) writing.
With creative momentum building, I sense I’m nearing what psychologists call the “flow state” — a true, lightning-in-a-bottle moment when promise meets purpose, much like this woman’s performance on the “Bongo Cam” from the stands of a recent sporting event:
Now, let me cut this discursive preamble short and share some exciting news! As I continue polishing two new short stories, I’d like to share an earlier piece that has likely never been seen outside of a few small literary circles in Eastern Europe.
This short work of fiction was adapted from Malyshka, an opera I penned many moons ago. The opera premiered at the world-famous Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow shortly before the fall of the Soviet Union.
Based on an intermezzo in Malyshka, the piece is titled Babies!!! — and I very much hope you enjoy it. Please stop by the blog later today and give it a read! Thank you, my learned readers.
Love,
Pete Switzerland
